How Clarity in Your Brand Can Give You More Freedom in Your Business (aka How I’m taking Summer off Client Work!)

The impossible juggle of business and motherhood

As a self-employed parent, the school summer holidays can be absolute chaos. You’re getting through six weeks of the school break, trying to keep your business moving forward whilst also juggling childcare, activities, the dreaded soft play and everything else life throws at you. And when you don’t have family support to fall back on, it’s all on you.

In the past, I’ve really felt that pressure deeply. Balancing client work with being a mum has always felt like a constant tug-of-war. But this year, it feels different - I’ve intentionally structured my business in a way that has given me the space to take the entire summer off client work. And the best part is that my business will continue to thrive!

What freedom really looks like (for me)

For me, true freedom means choice. I now have the option to say no to client work over the Summer without worrying that my business will fall apart. I finally feel like I can be the present, joyful parent I want to be without compromising the business I’ve worked so hard to build. I can enjoy those lazy days in the park, picnics by the river or day trips to London with my daughter without stressing about my to-do list.

However this is not luck and it’s not a fluke. It’s the direct result of me getting super clear on my brand and who I want to work with, the months and months spent refining my messaging, my branding and marketing strategy (one that actually works!)  And…. It's the exact thing I help my clients to do.

Clarity in your brand - it’s game changing!

When I say clarity, I’m not talking about my pretty logo or aesthetic Instagram feed. I’m talking about deep-rooted, purposeful clarity in every aspect of your brand. For me this looks like:

  • Knowing exactly who my dream clients are

  • Speaking their language in a way that magnetises them to my business

  • Creating a high-end brand identity that instantly communicates my value

  • Streamlining my marketing so my brand is working for me even when I’m not.

This is the foundation of a business that gives you real freedom, where you’re not constantly hustling to find new clients because they’re finding you and when they do find you, they know instantly that you’re the right person for them!

How branding can create freedom (and not just in Summer)

Having a clear, strategic brand allows you to:

  • Book high-quality clients in advance (Like me, now booking for projects in September/October!)

  • Charge premium prices that reflect your expertise and value

  • Reduce the need to constantly market and chase clients

  • Feel confident and aligned with your brand, because it finally feels like ‘you’

By attracting the right clients effortlessly, you’ve got more freedom to focus on the things that matter most to you. Whether that’s taking the summer off, enjoying more family time or even Netflix binging for an entire day with a family sized bag of popcorn - I’m not judging!

What this means for my summer (and beyond!)

The fact that I’m able to take the summer holidays off client work is still astounding to me. I love my work so much that of course, I’ll still be working on personal projects, my marketing strategy and refining my services - all the ‘working on the business’ kind of things - but having the choice is everything. And that’s the freedom I want for all my clients, too.

Because when your brand and messaging are crystal clear, you can build a business that really and truly works for you. One that allows you to say ‘no’ when you want to and ‘yes’ to what matters most. One that brings you more of what you do want and less of what you don’t!
