High-End Website Design for a Quintessential English Country Pub

The Brief: A High-End Website Design for a Historic Country Pub

The Fleur de Lys is a historic, charming country pub with a rich heritage set in a charming, picturesque village in Warwickshire. Landlady Emma approached me to work on transforming their outdated online home into a high-end website design with a digital presence as inviting and warm as the physical space.

This family-run, hidden gem is full of historic charm, atmosphere and seasonal versatility - it’s a cosy haven in Winter and a vibrant retreat in Summer! The biggest challenge was capturing the spirit and essence of the place in digital form, through the website design.

It’s always been a concern about how we create a digital facade for a very traditional bricks and mortar business. It can be hard to capture what is essentially “the vibes” of a place into an online space, but Tamsin has really nailed it. The digital expansion of our brand feels as unique and inviting as the actual physical space of our business, and that’s not something we take for granted at all.

Before the website transformation

An Outdated Website in Need of a Redesign

The previous website design was not only lacking in charm and beauty but was not really doing anything to drive the business forward - there was little to no SEO strategy in place meaning that discoverability was poor. It had become clunky and hard to update and maintain, and overall just failed to capture the essence of the pub’s appeal. Enter: a bespoke, high-end website design by Monroe Creative!

Strategic Website Design: Bringing Charm and Functionality Together

After my in-depth discovery process (and of course a few visits to the pub to soak up the atmosphere!) I went to work on creating a high-end website design as warm and inviting as the physical pub. I was strategic about each page’s goal and the user’s journey, improving the user experience at the same time as making the website easy for the team to manage post-handover.

I worked closely with Emma to create a strong SEO strategy with the goal of driving bookings and new customer discovery. Emma’s background is in copywriting so her captivating words went hand in hand with this strategy to create beautiful storytelling with intentional calls-to-action

High-End Results Using My ‘ICONIC’ Framework

I – In-Depth Discovery

My on-site visit helped me immerse myself in the pub’s rich and cosy atmosphere and this  helped inspire the design and the new colour palette - I took textures and colours from walls and objects in the pub so it felt authentic and gorgeous.

C – Creative Strategy

Each page was intentionally designed to be captivating and functional, making sure that the site doesn’t just attract visitors but also keeps them engaged. Strategic calls-to-action guide users effortlessly, creating a seamless journey from the moment they land on the site to booking their next visit to the pub.

O – One-of-a-Kind Design

Every website I design begins with a blank canvas, allowing the unique essence of each client’s brand to take centre stage. For this website project, I let Emma’s beautiful copy lead the way, weaving in stunning visuals captured by We Are The Clarkes reflecting the pub’s warm and cosy character.

N – Nurtured Client Experience

Launching a new website can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to managing the (boring!) technical aspects. To make sure Emma felt completely at ease, I created a library of personalised video tutorials tailored to her site. These resources give her and the team confidence to maintain and update the website, offering peace of mind and ongoing support long after the project was completed.

High-End Website Design
In addition to a beautiful virtual shopfront, Tamsin has given us a host of great tools to be able to optimise our website and track our traffic, so we are finally in the 21st Century and able to geek out about where our customers are coming from and what they want from us, which has been a real game-changer. Also, Tamsin’s very organised and easy to follow workflow made us take a look at our own systems in our team as to whether we could follow her example to get more shit done!

The Results: More Than Just a Website

The beautiful, English country pub and its cosy, inviting vibe is now reflected in the high-end website design - showing off the heritage but staying modern and relevant.

Results from the project include:

  • Increased bookings and customer engagement

  • Enhanced SEO visibility and traffic tracking tools

  • A website that reflects the charm, sophistication and uniqueness of the pub.

Once this project completed I immediately began looking for ways to work with Tamsin again as I truly feel that she could sprinkle her magic dust over any brief and come up with a charming, representative and effective result.

Why Website Design Matters for Your High-End Business

For a brand as unique as the Fleur de Lys, a high-end website is not just a marketing tool, but an extension of the experience in the physical space. Your website is often the first interaction potential customers have with your brand so a thoughtfully designed site needs to do more than just look beautiful; it must communicate your story, captivate your audience and convert visitors into loyal customers.
